The creation of a community boathouse and paddling centre at the Brechin boat ramp in Nanaimo is the aim of the Nanaimo Boathouse Society.
What will it provide?
  • Community access to a wide variety of paddling activities
  • Centralized paddling services
  • Safe and secure storage of equipment and boats
  • Place for "in-house" boat maintenance and repairs
  • Place for community paddlers to meet and train
  • Opportunity for visiting paddlers and teams to access equipment and teams to paddle with, while visiting Nanaimo
  • Community facility for training athletes at a higher level
  • Training facility for VIU
  • Opportunity to facilitate cross-cultural training and meets
  • Opportunity to host race meets at provincial, national and international levels
  • Potential for Paddling Tourism Information Centre
  • Educational opportunities for school groups
  • Opportunity for recreational paddling experiences
  • Meeting rooms, washrooms, change rooms
  • First aid, training and accreditation
  • Central location for better communication and planning between paddling groups
